DMSMS 2018 was held in Nashville, TN at the Music City Center with a stellar agenda. The objective of DMSMS 2018 was “Planning for Sustainable Systems in an Accelerated Acquisition Environment.” DMSMS additionally focused on Obsolescence Best Practices, Innovations in DMSMS Management, Counterfeit Prevention and Mitigation, Parts Management Knowledge, Data Needed for DMSMS Management, and Value of Technical Refresh. Over the four days of the Conference, attendees had an unprecedented opportunity to interact with leading experts on these subjects in thirteen informative training sessions, dynamic plenary talks, and leading edge technical breakout sessions.
This year we had two exciting guest speakers: Mr. Titan Gilroy, owner of TITANS of CNC, and Mr. Peter MacDonald, Sr., President of the Navajo Code Talkers Association. Mr. Gilroy presented his unique perspective on the need for manufacturing to return to the U.S. and novel ways to train the next generation of machine tool operators. Mr. MacDonald shared the history of the Navajo Code Talkers and their top-secret mission to provide secure communications during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Both speakers received standing ovations.
No trip to Nashville would be complete without live music and UTC was able to host Ms. Abbie Gardner to sing the National Anthem and perform during the Thursday Morning Breakfast. Abbie Gardner is an award-winning songwriter, singer and Dobro player hailing from Jersey City, NJ. She is best known as 1/3 of the female harmony group Red Molly, but released a solo record called “Wishes on a Neon Sign” this year and has been touring as a solo act. Her song “The Mind of a Soldier” segued into the introduction for Mr. MacDonald.
